Psychometric Assessments

I have clinical and counselling experience of administering, scoring and evaluating psychometric assessments to aid both clients and organisations in regards to understanding needs and progress. I feedback the outcomes of assessment / diagnosis in a clear and concise way. I believe sharing such information should be used to guide intervention, and from my own research understand that diagnosis can be both useful and challenging for individuals to recognise and manage.

It is recognised that some families, individuals or organisations are not able to access a timely response to concerns and may choose to seek a comprehensive assessment from an independent psychologist. Assessments are used to help diagnose conditions such as autism, learning disabilities and mental health issues. Assessments can indicate areas for further support and clarify strengths and weaknesses.

Depending on your needs and budget, I will either complete the assessment myself or will be joined by an appropriate HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registered colleague of a clinical psychology specialism, speech and language therapist or occupational therapist. Using this multi-disciplinary approach during assessment falls in line with recommendations by NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines.

Process:

  1. Informal no obligation discussion (face-to-face, Skype, email or phone). This provides an opportunity to discuss your concerns and help clarify the services you might need. This assists me to ensure I am the correct person to complete the assessment
  2. I will offer you an assessment package with a breakdown of the process, suggested assessment tools and fee
  3. We will discuss the assessment package
  4. I will Complete assessments
  5. A copy of the report will be provided to you. Reports include the outcome of the assessment or assessments used as well as outlining the individual’s strengths and areas of need. I offer a summary of the next steps such as signposting to relevant services or suggested interventions
  6. Discussion on the report and recommendations (face to face, Skype, email or phone)

Assessments consist of:

  • Taking a detailed history
  • Conducting observations
  • Clinical interview(s)
  • Exploring how issues affect the person and those around them
  • Using recognised assessment tools
  • Throughout the assessment process I will ensure the assessed person feels relaxed and at ease by taking it at the persons pace

If I am assessing a child, a parent, caregiver, friend or advocate can be present.

Through my own research with parents of children with learning disabilities and various other diagnoses, I am aware that diagnoses can be challenging for all involved. Some parents / guardians feel left out of the process and are left feeling uninformed about what the diagnosis actually means for them and their loved one. I endeavour to inform those involved as much as possible. I am happy to discuss the assessment process at every stage and will provide feedback combined with recommendations both in written form and verbally. You can ask questions or ask for clarity at any stage.
