Specialist Therapeutic Support

Therapeutic support with those who have learning disabilities & behavioural needs and their families

I have over 10 years experience supporting children, teenagers and adults with learning disabilities and additional learning or behavioural needs. As part of my Doctorate Research Thesis I have spent many hours interviewing and working with families and relatives who have a loved one with a learning difficulty, so have a particular interest in this field.

The principles of counselling remain the same but my experience has shown me that people with additional needs may require more creative ways to enable them to explore their issues, thoughts, feelings and emotions. I therefore utilise methods to aid self-expression and understanding for example using objects of reference, work sheets, drawings and media (I assess suitability depending on ability and willingness to engage with these approaches).

Issues I work with include:

Session Costs

Individual therapy sessions are £50 per session and can take place at an appropriate location i.e: school, work place or other suitable settings of choice. Supporting individuals in these locations, must be established before support commences.

Fees can be paid by cheque, cash or bank transfer, at the beginning or in advance of the session. 24 hours notice is required for cancellations, otherwise you will be charged for the full session. If you are paying via your health insurance, you will need to make arrangements for this in advance of your first appointment.
